Mapleton Camp 2013

From our Camp Convenor, Alison Hayes:

Mapleton Centre – QCCC
Obi-Obi Road, Mapleton, Ph 07 5456 3600

We would like to make you aware that the price of our camp has risen again and that this pricing is out of our control. Although we have been booked into Kirkwood Hall, a large and spacious venue, if the numbers do not reach 40 or beyond we will be moved to a much smaller room. We are making endeavours to source a new venue for 2014 due to the increases in cost. We hope you will join us for a wonderfully creative weekend and encourage your friends to come along.

It’s time to start planning for QSW&FA’s annual camp at Mapleton. This is a beautiful area especially in the winter when we can rug up and wear our hand crafted winter woollies. We have the use of Kirkwood Hall, plenty of room to spread out, and a fireplace where we can sit and knit. For the early risers, there are bush walks in the grounds and other facilities available for your entertainment. The local Mapleton shops are only a short walk away and are well worth investigating during the weekend.

Saturday Night Dinner Theme: To carry on the tradition of dressing in Hand Craft for dinner, the theme for 2013 is your interpretation of Water. This idea is a continuation of Australiana theme of 2012 where from now on we will be exploring all the elements of our great country. So maybe your interpretation is simply to make a scarf in blue tones to match the sea, or brown tones to match the Brisbane River or a shawl to represent a waterfall – the mind boggles with possibilities.

WHEN: Camp opens 3pm Friday 12th July, 2013. Closes 3 pm Sunday, 14th July, 2013
WHERE: From Montville, turn left at the Mapleton Pub, it is 800m up the road on the left, signed QCCC, over a little bridge.
COST: $160 for the full weekend. All meals are included in the fee. All blocks are joined by covered walk-ways, except to work hall. Bring bedding or sleeping bags, pillows and towels. There will be a roster for setting tables etc. but no onerous dishwashing. $50 for day visitors. This fee includes morning and afternoon teas, lunch and participation in all activities – bring your wheel etc.

  1. I am interested in the camp, my daughter might be interested in coming with me. We are both knitters crocheters and spinners dyers and jewellery makers and I would class myself as advanced, I sell my jewellery. I would like to know if she would be allowed to attend she is 13 but is competent and also mature for her age. Also I would be happy to volunteer to take a workshop myself in any subject if this is of any use. (I am used to teaching as I taught IT in business in a different life!).
Will there be any workshop sessions during the weekend?

    Many thanks

Hi Amanda – I don’t see why your daughter wouldn’t be welcome! I’ll check with the powers that be and let you know. I brought my own daughter along one year, but she was only three months old at the time and not particularly interested in knitting! 😀
