QSWFA International Scarf Exchange
Hi everyone my name is Felicity Clarke and I have volunteered to run the 2017 International Scarf Exchange. The International Scarf Exchange has run for 24 years in Australia but has never been held by Qld Spinners, Weavers and Fibre Artists and was last held in the state of Qld in Toowoomba in 1996.
I gingerly held my hand up to run the 2017 Exchange for our organization. I have designed the new entry form which will be available online, on our official facebook page and a link on the qswfa website as well as physically from the hall before the Christmas break. I am getting photos from the current co-ordinator of the Bland Spinners and Weavers Group, of the successful exhibition they held a few weeks ago, to upload onto facebook for our launch. We have already had our first entrant from a keen participant from Geelong ,( as I provided entry forms for the 2016 organizers to include with their returns) –which only went out last tuesday. And enquiries from NZ and Holland have already come in.
So the 2016 Exchange has officially concluded and ours will now kick off!!
What is involved?
The theme this year is Brisvegas, the colours of the tropics.
It’s easy to participate in this exchange and join in the fun. Send us 150 grams of fibre, and we will send you someone else’s fibre from across the world. You get busy and make a colourful creation in five months which you send back to us. We will display all of the entries for this international swap. We then send you back your original fibre that someone has transformed into a beautiful item…. you get the picture!!!!
The fibre can be spun, dyed, or felted, then woven, knitted or crocheted and embellished to produce a scarf, shawl, beanie, hat or bag or whatever you can come up with. If you don’t spin –call a friend or the organization to help or you can felt a base. Be creative and innovative in producing a colourful artwork to share
- Fibre and form received by January 15 2017
- Fibre swapped and posted out by February 01 2017
- Closing date for the return of the article to Brisbane will be June 30th 2017, as all entries will be displayed at Fibrefest and the hall for members , and I am negotiating to get another exhibition and/or a large no. of BCC council libraries displaying the items across Brisbane.
- Articles will be returned to the original supplier of the fibre after August – October 2017 depending on displays organized.
Having chatted with a no. of previous organizers including the lovely ladies from Bland NSW, I think this will be a great forum to promote our organization across Australia and the world. I will be calling for volunteers to help swap the fibre in feb 2017 and later in the year, otherwise you can all sit back and create beautiful pieces. I will be regularly updating our site as pieces arrive and all participants work will be able to be viewed on facebook, a great way to showcase to the world and the myriad of other spinning, weaving and textile groups what we can do and hopefully bring in some new members.
So get ready to be creative!!!
