QSWFA has a wide range of crafters, who participate in a wide range of crafts. We have several regular meetings aimed at allowing all people to come and work on projects, have a cuppa, socialise, and learn from other members.
Saturday’s General Meetings
Members from all groups are welcome to attend Saturday General Meetings from 10 am to 2:30 pm on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Make yourself a cuppa tea or coffee, grab some bickies from the kitchen and settle in for the morning. These meetings are a great opportunity to hear about our current news, presented by QSWFA’s President. Find out about events we are involved in and what’s on the horizon for QSWFA. Be inspired by Showcase, this is a presentation of members’ creations. Feel welcome to bring yours in and share its story, briefly describe the materials and method. Generally, this part of the morning is wrapped up by 11.30 am. After which you are free to mingle and meet members from the variety of our fibre art skills groups.
Fibre Craft House usually has stayers continuing with their project or making use of the hall’s equipment. This is an opportunity to seek experience and advice from other members who always enjoy passing on their tips. Stay for a BYO lunch and enjoy the rest of the afternoon crafting with friends.
Guest Speakers
Most months a Guest Speaker will be invited to make a presentation with a talk as part of our first Saturday of the month meeting. The speaker and topic can be anyone who is of interest to the group and will sometimes include a demonstration or samples being passed around. Our speakers are people from outside the group or often our own members. We have many artists and skilled craftspeople with a wealth of knowledge of their craft amongst our membership who exhibit artworks, run their own workshops and/or online business.
Some past topics include Book & Paper Arts, Nålbinding, International Scarf Exchange, Basket Weaving Artist visit to Thailand, Ravelry, Lace Making, Japan tour – Papermaking & workshops, Plant, seed, and vegetable dyeing for yarn, Tessellation Designs, Royal Flying Doctors (a charity we support), and Art Therapy.
Look for the announcement and introduction for the next Guest Speaker in our Clippings newsletter or our events calendar.
QSWFA Guest Speaker meetings bring together a wider group of members as the speaker is of special interest to them and it motivates the sharing of ideas and skills. We invite members to bring along friends who are interested in the topic of a presentation as they may be intrigued and also temped to become a member themselves. Note: there is an entry fee for all meetings for Members and Visitors.
Midweek Craft Group
The Midweek Craft Group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, and Tuesdays in other weeks. We all bring the craft we’re working on at the moment and enjoy doing it together, which we find stimulating and encouraging. We start at around 10 am and finish with our BYO lunch at around 12.30 pm.
Night Owls
Every Wednesday night from 6.30 to 9 pm, the Night Owls flock to Fibrecraft House. Everyone brings their project to work on and to show the others. Whatever craft you’re working on – knitting, spinning, weaving, papercraft, felting, embroidery – join us! We’d love to have you along.
